When you purchase sliding wardrobes with Enhance Sliding Wardrobes in Northern Ireland, there is no doubt that you have invested a lot. Whether it’s time, energy or money, we know you have put a lot into your sliding wardrobes, and our staff do the same. That’s why we emphasise the importance of maintaining your sliding wardrobes correctly. To do this, we suggest keeping them in an organised condition. After all, our sliding wardrobes are created bespoke for you, and we have devoted our resources to creating perfect products for you – our customer. Therefore, we encourage you to look after your wardrobes.

It’s not all about us and the resources we invest into creating bespoke sliding wardrobes. Instead, it’s about you and your belongings. You will have accumulated a variety of pieces that your sliding wardrobe houses. This might include accessories, shoes, and clothing. After assembling your dream wardrobe, equipped with all your garments, it’s important to maximise the lifespan of both the exterior and the interior of your sliding wardrobes. By doing this, you can make sure your clothes stay fresh and dry. Additionally, your wardrobe will last a lifetime.

Why is it important to maintain your sliding wardrobes?

There are so many reasons why it is important to keep your wardrobe maintained correctly:

  • Durability. When designing any room in your home, durability should always be considered. You can save money in the long term as you won’t need to continually update your furniture.
  • Fresh clothes. By nature, your wardrobe is an extremely compact space. Due to the little air circulation, your clothes can become musty over time without regular cleaning. With a correctly-maintained wardrobe, your clothes will stay fresher for longer. This means you don’t have to worry about re-washing clothes you haven’t worn in a while!

How do I maintain my sliding wardrobes?

1. Regularly clean your sliding wardrobes

When you purchase a sliding wardrobe from Enhance, we highly recommend regularly cleaning your sliding wardrobes. To do this, we suggest wiping down all surfaces with a simple soap or detergent. Spot cleaning every so often is extremely important. This is because your sliding wardrobe can actually stain if too much dust builds up over time. If you are unsure exactly what products can be used on your Enhance sliding wardrobe, contact a member of our team. We are passionate about making our products last a lifetime, so we will do our best to help you.

When cleaning your sliding wardrobe, you should remove all clothing before wiping down any surfaces. This reduces the risk of staining your clothes with any cleaning products. Additionally, you give your clothes an opportunity to freshen up with excess air circulation. After a spot clean, you can hang your clothes back up correctly.

2. Line your sliding wardrobes with air fresheners

As we mentioned, it is not overtly strange for your wardrobe to become musty over time. Again, this is because of a lack of air circulating through the small, enclosed space. Therefore, we recommend adding a small air freshener into your wardrobe. This will keep your sliding wardrobe smelling fresh and pleasant in between your spot cleans.

These air fresheners can be any product you wish – it might even be your favourite car air freshener. Other than this, essential oil diffusers are great air fresheners. Essential oils are extremely beneficial to have throughout your wardrobe, as herbs such as rosemary, cloves, or lavender release scents. Furthermore, essential herbs are helpful to have in your sliding wardrobe as they can repel moths.

Moths are prone to wardrobes as they like warm, humid spaces. However, they can cause serious issues for your clothing if they inhabit your wardrobe. Moths are extremely troublesome to have in your wardrobe as they can extract nourishment from clothing. The materials affected particularly include wool, as they can digest the keratin in it.

3. Have you tried this coffee ground hack?

You might have heard this suggestion when you’re moving house. Those buying a new home are advised to make a fresh pot of coffee before a house viewing. This is not only because coffee is an extremely pleasant and inviting scent. It also reduces the smell of any unpleasant odours that might be lingering. Therefore, it works in your sliding wardrobe too!

We suggest taking a small glass jar and half filling it with coffee beans. Doing this, and covering it with a light fabric to let air circulate will reduce any unpleasant odours in your wardrobe. Then, you can quite literally forget about it (be sure not to put it somewhere you will knock over, though!) Following this, we recommend replacing the jar every 2-3 months to keep your wardrobe fresh. This is a great alternative to strong-smelling air fresheners, as these can be too overpowering for some.

4. If you’re not wearing it, throw it out!

We have already discussed the importance of organisation in your sliding wardrobe. However, how do you keep on top of it? We advise you to create a unique rule for yourself, based on your own wearing habits. Maybe you want to create a rule whereby you throw away clothes you haven’t worn in the last year. That way, you have covered every season and still haven’t worn an item of clothing. Now you can also justify spending more!

By following this rule, you will keep everything more organised and hung up in the correct place. This also reduces the need to iron your clothes as much if they are hung up correctly. Who knows, you might even discover something you forgot you owned and fall in love with it all over again. However, we suggest considering if anything in your wardrobe needs to be re-washed when you are sorting through your clothes. Keeping musty clothes in your wardrobe for long periods can affect the overall scent of your sliding wardrobe.

5. Pick your sliding wardrobe hangers wisely

It is highly recommended to use thick wooden hangers in your sliding wardrobe. This is because they help maintain the shape of your clothing. In addition to this, hang your clothes evenly spaced across your wardrobe. Therefore, they will have room to ‘breathe’ so air can circulate throughout. Furthermore, if the space in your wardrobe is tight and restricting air circulation, remove anything that can be folded. Look after your clothes!

In addition to this, simple storage solutions can be extremely beneficial in the maintenance of your sliding wardrobe. For example, buttoning all buttons and zipping all zips will help maintain the shape of your clothes for much longer. That way, you can ensure your clothes last for years in your durable sliding wardrobe from Enhance.
